This is Allie. She works with children like you and helps them think about their feelings.

I’m only young, like you. I need someone like Allie to help me work out if my feelings are helping or hurting me.

All our feelings are really important, but sometimes they are hard to control. Allie can help you learn how to show your feelings safely.

Did you know we have lots of feelings? All the time!
I wonder how many you can name…?

What do you know about feelings?

Happy

We can feel happy when we feel safe, and are doing things we enjoy with people we love. We may smile, laugh, or feel relaxed and calm. It’s nice to notice these moments when they happen. Like all feelings, they come and go, but it can be good to try and remember what makes you feel happy, so you can do it again!

Sad

We can feel sad when something bad happens to us. We may have had an argument with someone we love, or we may have lost something precious to us. We may have a pain in our chest or tummies, cry, or not want to do things we usually enjoy. It’s ok to let these feelings out, especially if we have someone we love around to give us a big cuddle.

Angry

We can feel angry when someone annoys us or things don’t go the way we want them to. We can shout, feel like we want to hit something, or run away. Sometimes feeling angry is scary, but really it’s our brain telling us that something isn’t right and giving us the energy to do something about it.

Scared

We can feel scared when we don’t know what’s happening or we have to do something difficult, maybe for the first time. We may get butterflies in our tummies, breathe fast, or feel faint, and it can be hard to ignore. Our brain is trying to keep us safe, but we can learn how to work out if we’re really in danger, or if it’s ok.

Would you like to see what’s in the room?

There are lots of different people and animals for you to play with. You can use them to tell your stories.

You can talk to them too. They’re great listeners!

Sand

You can play with the toys in the sand or just make patterns and let it run through your fingers.

Games

There are all sorts of games here for you to play with too. They can take you on a whole new adventure, if you want them to.

Arts and Crafts

You can draw or paint, use play doh, make things… it doesn’t matter what you make, it’s what it means that’s important.
